About Vanbrugh
Vanbrugh College was established in 1967, and named after the architect John Vanbrugh. The college was initially one of the smallest, but has expanded to become the second largest on campus. Vanbrugh is closely linked to the History, History of Art and Language and Linguistics Departments, as well as being renowned for having a strong musical core.
In recent years, Vanbrugh’s JCRCs (Junior Common Room Committee) have gone from strength to strength, putting on sell-out ‘Volume’ events, Band and Open Mic Nights, Sports Tournaments and Fairs, making the College one of the most dynamic and enviable on campus.
Vanbrugh’s central location gives it a great atmosphere, Vanbrugh Stalls and V Bar are constantly buzzing with the influx of students who spend time there during the day. However, Vanbrugh is also renowned for its brilliant support system headed by our Provost, David Efird who sums up the College by saying:
“Vanbrugh College is an inclusive community of students and staff at the heart of the University of York. Together, we help one another make the most of our time at university through activities like music, sport, volunteering, and social events, and, like a family, we support one another in times of need”The Website
