Wednesday Summer Term : Week 5

JCRC!

What is the JCRC?

The Junior Common Room Committee is an organisation of elected students who volunteer their time to provide services to their college community through a variety of means. We put on events, help run college sport, provide welfare support and much much more.

How do I get involved?

Elections are held for all positions at the end of Autumn term. Following that, by-elections are held at the beginning of Spring term. Once these are over it is possible to be co-opted into any vacant roles (for more info, please contact our secretary Rachel Seymore rs879@york.ac.uk).
Also, if you would just like to contribute without join the committee that's great too. Just send us an email and we'll do our best to work it out.

What does the JCRC actually do?

Our biggest thing that we organise is Freshers' Week. We create the ticket and the line up of events that are provided to our freshers. We also coordinate the highly successful STYC (Second and Third Year Contact) system that helps integrate the new arrivals.

We also put on events all year round. We hold our regular club night 'Volume' in the VBar at least once a term and smaller, more interesting nights, in VBar; Jazz nights, magic shows, open mic night, blind date, Mr & Mrs Vanbrugh etc. etc.

College sport is a free, easy, beginner friendly way to participate in sport. Check out the Sports page for more details.

As a JCRC, we provide the best welfare on campus. Our aim is to make sure that you feel safe and comfortable in the college community. W do this by provided drop-in welfare sessions, providing advice on sexual health, mental health and over all well being. We also run a yearly event called 'Vanbrugh Loves You' to highlight welfare issues, ways to help them, whilst having a fun time.
