Donald Barron And Barbara Scott Courts
Welcome from George Lane and Andy Rees, your Donald Baron and Barbara Scott Block Reps! These blocks were built in 2008, making them among the newest accomodations of the entire university. DB/BS Courts are the closest to the city of York of any campus accommodation, meaning the shortest walk or the cheapest taxi ride. They also pretty much have their own bus stop!
Nicknamed 'Vanbrugh Palace' by many Vanbrites, these blocks are known for their comfort and welcoming atmospheres, as well as a diverse social network that loves nothing more than a good snowball fight.

Layout Of The Blocks
Donald Barron and Barbara Scott are a pair of three separate blocks facing one another, which differ primarily in name. They are inhabited by 245 people, each block having either three or four floors of 12 people (I agree, the math doesn't add up). Floors are divided into two flats of 6 rooms, with an enormous shares kitchen. Kitchens are equipped with two ovens, eight hobs, two kettles, microwaves, fridges, freezers.You each get an en-suite bathroom (shower, toilet, sink, mirror), which is cleaned beautifully every three weeks or so. True, it may be in a slightly higher rent band than some of the other blocks, but when you live here you understand why. It's lovely.
The rooms are pretty well designed and feel brand new, with masses of storage space, long desks, wireless internet and enough plug holes to sink a submarine.
The colossal kitchens have been known to host some pretty impressive parties, but you can also opt to be on a quiet floor, if you wish to combine socialising with a good night's sleep.
Community
If you're looking for a sense of community anywhere in Vanbrugh, you'll find it, but it's certainly true to say that Donald Baron and Barbara Scott Courts have an individual communal identity.By then end of your first year, you'll know your flat of 12, your block of 36-48 and, most likely, many of the residents in the other blocks. With the potential for flat parties, the idyllic scenes for snowball fights and the barbecues in the summer term, it's not too difficult to get to know most of DB/BS Court residents.
Vanbrugh Palace might be the slightly quieter younger (shinier) brother of the college's wildchild, Eric Milner A, but it also has the most residents, so if you like a distinctive block/court identity and want to get involved in the College as a whole, but also want to come home to accommodation that gives a Travelodge a run for its money, then New Vanbrugh is the Palace...sorry...place for you.
